Check out buzzer #6/unit #22

Kris and I have lived together for months, but we recently asked the condo managers to change the name on the buzzer and the mailbox so it included both of our names instead of just Kris's.

The house where I live in my dreams is crumbling

A ceiling cave in at The Homestead damaged some Emily Dickinson artifacts.

The collapse damaged some furniture and a teapot. When I went there in June, The Evergreens house was the one that was falling apart. Someone lived in the Evergreens until 1965 and she was elderly and didn't maintain the house. The Homestead seemed a lot more sturdy to me. Amherst College was trying to restore everything as quickly as possible, but they have a lot of work to do and not enough money.

She would be 77

Today is Sylvia Plath's birthday.

Some of her poems

My favorite part of the Massachusetts Poetry Festival was a reading with Louise Gluck and Robert Pinsky reading their favorite poems for an hour.

I really enjoyed Robert Pinsky’s Favorite Poem Project from when he was poet laureate. I love hearing people talk about their favorite things, and I love when people talk about poetry, so it was double great.

Some of their favorites were also my favorites, like Berryman’s Dream Song 14 (Life, friends, is boring) and Plath’s Nick and the Candlestick (I am a miner). They also read some great ones that I hadn't heard before like Robinson Jeffers poem Vulture(I had walked since dawn and lay down to rest on a bare hillside).

Pinsky also suggested that the audience should type up their favorite poems and keep them in a file, which I already do!

I have a lot to say about the Massachusetts Poetry Festival

For now, here is a photo of me at the small press book fair at the festival. They had a table with each book of everyone who was in the Massachusetts Poets with New Books Reading, and listed what time each of us went on. My book was in the middle of the table, right up front.

I am holding my new clipboard, made of hard wood (which I got complimented on more than anything else at the festival). You may also notice on my lanyard, just behind the clipboard, there is a tag that says "Presenter."

I am also wearing two backpacks in this photo. I am wearing mine, but I was also holding Kris's backpack while he took the photo.

My business cards came in today!

The real ones have my phone number but I took it off because I don't want my number on the internet. Kris designed them for me using my book cover as inspiration.

I've wanted business cards with "Poet" on them since I was in high school!

Last week was the anniversary of me moving to Massachusetts, aka Poetryland!

After moving so many different places, I feel like I found my home. I wasn't sure if I would like it at first (snow), but the literary events, museums, and great public transportation have made snow and cold seem trivial.

Massachusetts also has the most gorgeous Fall I've seen.

Poetry Book Club

I read this story today about how book clubs don't read poetry.

I've been wanting to find or start a poetry book club for years. Now that I live in Poetryland (Massachusetts) I hope I can find enough people to meet and talk about poetry books. After the festival next week, I'm going to look into the logistics of starting one.

Under the Weather

I am on the precipice of getting sick.

I feel like the reason I am getting sick is because I didn't write enough this week.

If I do some extra writing, maybe I can stave it off?
