My Name

I didn’t like my name when I was little. I thought it was a “fat name,” which makes no sense to me now. (What is a fat name? I think the only reason I thought that was because I was a fat little kid and it was my name).

I’ve never had to share my name, except for in one class in college, which had 3 Valeries. I wasn’t used to sharing my name, so I would answer any time one of the Valeries got called on. I never had to deal with it before. I am glad I don’t usually have to share.

well, i certainly love the name valerie, valerie -- compared to arlene which is pure dorkhood, plus everyone keeps getting it wrong.

i got a laugh over that how to be happy comic strip! it's a riot.

p.s. i started out the same way about pushing daisies. but it's way too irresistible. like the pie-maker's pie.

I always thought of Bertha as a "fat name." I think it's the "th" sound that for some reason (maybe it's the way the tongue flattens against the teeth) made it seem fat. But the name Valerie reminds me of a field with flowers in it, though I don't know why.

As I child I was a largely alone Sarah. Now they are like the pods that burst to take over half the human race. They are like the Salvation Army. But at least my name is now smartphone. hee.
Now Valerie, that is a nice name. I had a babysitter as a kid named Valerie with long dark hair. Then there was the Stevie Winwood song.

Valerie sounds like the name of a flower.. light, wafty, tall and colorful... I didn't like my name either. I don't know why, but I always thought, Crystal, thats not a name for an old lady. I couldn't see myself old with the name Crystal.
