We got some great news yesterday. We got a call from the vet saying that Dinah was going to be okay after we had a health scare with her. She had some routine blood work before they were going to spay her, and they found protein in her blood. The only thing that this could really be a symptom is a horrible, incurable, untreatable disease FIP. It is a really bad disease where the cat gets a common, harmless virus called the Corona virus. A lot of cats have this virus and it doesn't cause any problems for them. Sometimes (not often), the Corona virus mutates into FIP. The disease goes into the cat's organs, and the cat's immune system attacks its organs because the disease is in there. We were devastated when we found out.
The vet sent the blood to another (more advanced) testing facility to double check, just in case her results were wrong. We were waiting for a week, and really resigned to the fact that she most likely was sick (It seemed pretty unlikely that there was a lab error). The vet called us with the results yesterday that the original lab work was wrong. Dinah is totally fine! I feel like the luckiest person on Earth after hearing this. They are going to test her again just to make sure she is okay, but the vet said her equipment isn't as good as the advanced lab, so their results are most likely correct. What a relief! She is such a sweet kitten, and it was heartbreaking to think she wouldn't have a full life.
I am so happy that I want throw a party. I want to write a song. I want to take a photo of Dinah and photoshop a tiara onto her head.
