Peeled Grapes

One of the only reasons I regret that we didn't get the house is because today I would have transformed it to a Haunted House and had a party. (I also have a similar daydream about making sugar skulls and hosting a Day of the Dead party).

I don't know if I'll ever want the responsibility of owning a house, so I will have to the re-think the parties into something that will work with an apartment.

Luckily, I went to a party on Saturday and they had a haunted room and cookies shaped like severed fingers, so I didn't miss out on Halloween.

I love possums

As we were driving out of our apartment complex, the driveway was blocked by a possum trying to pick up a piece of pizza crust. We tried to get him to leave by creeping the car up, but he wouldn't move until he had the crust and even then, he only casually waddled away.

My friend just told me he sent one of my poems to cheer up his buddy who is going through a breakup.

Theme Song

I just recently saw SeaLab 2021 for the first time. Although I the episodes I've seen range from okay to pretty good, the show's theme song is my absolute favorite.

What is your favorite tv show theme song?

(Viva Blackpool)

Ever since my friend linked this clip (NWS, and also beware: when I showed my friend Halcyone this clip, she went insane and wrote this post, even including a David Tennant icon) from the British series Blackpool on her blog, I have been looking all over for a region 1 DVD of it. I finally found a copy on Ebay (because of the Emmys. It is a "for your consideration" copy).

It arrived yesterday and I watched the whole thing (6 hour-long episodes) all at once. It is just as great as I hoped.

Blackpool is sort of a murder mystery where the characters sing along with the soundtrack (with songs like Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now," Morrissey's "Boy with a Thorn in His Side," and Elvis Costello's "Brilliant Mistake") and also do some light dancing. It has some elements of Twin Peaks, soap operas and the musical episode of Buffy.

I still prefer used book stores

I went to Book People (a huge, pretty good, local bookstore) yesterday, where employee's reviews of books hang throughout the store among the books. The reviews are hand written and sometimes include hearts or lots of exclamation points.

My favorite was a review of The Collected Poems of Ted Hughes, which had a great quote in big loopy cursive: "There are two types of people: either you are someone who loves Ted Hughes, or you are someone who loves him and doesn't know it yet."
